Hello Steve,
Air quality used in the paint application is way more likely than a Car Cover being that cause. I've spent a lot on installing a system that ensures very dry, very clean air is supplied to the spray system.

The following picture shows the water extracted from air after an initial filter, typical of that which most home shops and many professional outfits use as their final filter, and before entering the main water trap system. This water is collected from a long system of tubing designed to allow the newly compressed air to cool before entering the main filtration system.

The reason why I thought it was the cover that caused the micro blistering was because the car was covered with it's tailored cover at the time of my discovery and shock and further confirmed by the specialist bodyshop whom conducted the re-spray. I will point out that this was on an Aston Martin with original factory paint and the bodyshop whom re-sprayed the car is very reputable.
So on that point I am not going to question their expertise and recommendation NOT to cover the car with a car cover and let the paint breathe.

I use a car cover on my recently restored and resprayed car so don't want this problem. Did the people who sprayed the car explain how the cover would cause these blisters?
Interestingly the company who did the work on my car gave me a cover to use on it whilst on my garage.

There are numerous reports of Aston,s with paint blistering on Piston Heads supposedly by poor factory prep

Personally I have never heard of or seen before a "breathable" automotive topcoat.
A car topcoat is supposed to be a sealed barrier.
Blisters happen due to entrapped moisture or gases in the underlayers, which are precisely held by the topcoat barrier.

Absolutely.
Also known as humidity blisters, the appearance of which can vary with the weather, due to the entrapped moisture expanding and contracting. Over time, with the circumference of the blisters acting like a hinge, the hinge fatigues and a small circular dot of paint falls off. I'm sure many of you will have seen cars where it appears to have a myriad of small shallow divots in the paint surface; this is humidity blistering at the total failure point.

It is a total furphy that car covers cause blistering.

FWIW, Over the past 40 years and a variety of cars, Jaguar, Porsche, Lotus, Mercedes, I have used a Covercraft 4 layer fitted cover and never had any issues. The covers allow the car to breathe so trapped moisture is not an issue, not that I put the cover over a wet or damp car. I was a concourse nut and judge with the numerous Porsche’s ( but have finally been cured!), so was always conscious of any scratching using the covers. But with my wife helping me with the cover I never had any issues with marks, that a final quick polish before judging did not sort out, even on black cars.

The other benefit to a four layer is the protection from any light knocks or scuffs on the panels as I move around the garage.
