The main advantage an S3 has over the swb models is that slightly older and slightly taller occupants can get in and out of the S3.
The doors on thw SWB models mean you have to keep trim to get in. I think the S3 door is 7 inches longer or so.
Hello James,
A 2+2 in S1 and S2 are the same wheelbase and have the same length doors as an S3. A client of mine, 74 years old, 6'2" and rotund, who owns an S1 FHC, quips that those who say they bought a 2+2 because they're easier to get in and out of, can't afford the S1/S2 FHC, or OTS.
The S3, coupe and roadster, are both built on the 2+2 platform, which is 9" longer (through the door area) than the S1/S2 FHC and OTS. This puts the B pillar 9" further to the rear and provides the notion that the LWB car is easier to get in and out of. However, if you look at the general position of the seat back rest in a S1/S2 FHC, or OTS, its close to being inline with the B pillar (for a tallish person). The same seat position in a 2+2, a position 9" forward of the B pillar, relatively speaking, makes the extra length of the LWB platform rather irrelevant when relating it to the ease (or difficulty) of getting in and out of the car.
Sure, you can slide the seat back to make more room when getting in and out of the car, but pushing the seat back from outside the car can be a little difficult at times. Tilting the back rest of the seat back provides a lot more room to get in and out and its a much easier adjustment to re-establish than the fore, aft position of the seat. So, in reality, I don't see the LWB car being any easier to get in and out of than the SWB cars.

Bill
