#1 Brake/air pipes

Post by vipergts » Tue Jan 04, 2011 7:02 pm

Does anyone remake these to fit?

Especially the 3 that run across the back of the engine

Mine are original but slightly dented....need nice new silver zinc ones or preferably stainless

Ah, if you mean the vac and brake line that were fitted to the early 4.2s, they are not available from the usuals.... however, Colin Ford has an original set that he made me some from. If you need his number, let me know.

What did he make them from?

I have all the original pipes and wondered who might remake them given my units as patterns.

His number could be useful....thanks
Lee

Lee,

I have tried to make the vac pipes from stainless a few times and its not easy in fact I have not completed one set yet. You really need an original set to copy which I have but to get them really accurate a bulkhead minus engine would help.

Dartford area.....Nice and local...thanks

Dave. I have an original set to cop and an engineless bulkhead but I still imagine its not easy.

I want to get all the brake pipes made up too.

They are not that difficult to make - it just takes patience (and a pipe bender of course). I used cunifer but need to remake the brake line as it is smaller than the vacuum pipe but thicker than normal brake pipes.

See my restoration posts for a view...

Oh yes various diameters are available. I just forgot to engage my brain and made it out of pipe that was too small. I just need to order the right size.

They company I ordered it from supplies it straight (rather than in a coil). Let me know if you want their details.

The pipe is 3/8" OD or .375" as measured on my digital vernier.
