Exploded Views

What is the best source for exploded views to assist with rebuilding a Series 1 3.8 which has suffered from bad work in the past. I have downloaded various internet parts catalogues but can I get my hands on original Jaguar parts catalogue?

The original parts catalogues are available on CD from JDHT:

but to be honest I think one of the best parts catalogue is the one from SC Parts. I suspect that you may need more that a parts guide to work out what has been put back together properly and what hasn't. There are some good restoration guides around but you can't beat a good look over a real E Type. Luckily the show season is upon us.

I've just acquired a 3.8 OTS which has various things "not right" and I've acquired the SC Parts, SNG Barrett and factory parts catalogues. I agree with Andy - so far, the SC Parts one is the best for quick reference, but having all 3 does help when occasionally something is not quite clear.

I also agree with Andy about looking at other cars - I was at the E-type Register day at Prescott last weekend and had a good look over some immaculate 3.8s which immediately made a few obscure points clear which I had not been able to figure out exactly from the parts catalogues.

By the way, if you do want an SC Parts book, don't go here - someone is taking the piss

Another good reference is the XK Unlimited one: http://www.xks.com/jaguar/eType_catalog/index.aspx which is downloadable as a pdf. The Jaguar official parts catalogue is also a good reference if you read it carefully and work your way through the text list of parts.

For interior parts try John Skinner http://www.john-skinner.co.uk/, again a good dowloadable catalogue with lots of information. Finally the JCNA judging originality guides are very useful: http://www.jcna.com/library/concours/index.php

Actually they will give you one free if you talk to them nicely or buy some parts. They were handing them out at Stoneleigh in exchange for an address. It does mean you get on the mailing list for their general 4 in 1 catalogue which is a cross between an "Innovations", "Lakeland" and "I Want One of Those!" catalogue. Picnic baskets, leather belts with Union Jack buckles, driving goggles, Leaper paperweights, key fobs, wire wheels etc etc.
