#1 IRS. Poly Bushes or Rubber?

Post by MarkG » Mon Dec 27, 2010 8:21 pm

So I've just dropped my rear suspension unit and need to replace the large and small radius arm bushes whihc are cracking and look knackered. But which to go for? Poly of rubber? Standard rubber would be a safe option but has anyone on here tried the poly versions?

Thanks

Mark

Poly will last longer (6 years +) but will mean a slightly harsher ride. Depends what you are looking for from your car. If you are doing track days then poly, road use consider rubber - Jaguar thought it OK!

Personally I would go for poly. I have not found it to harshen things at all . Whilst I sympathise with David's suggestion that Jaguar thought rubber was sufficient, I am certain that the rubber they used ( original metalastik) was of much higher quality than is now available . My recent experience with aftermarket rubber goods has shown that by and large the rubber degrades very quickly

I've just ordered poly, but my goodness they cost 5x the price of the rubber version. So they had better be good!

Mark : one hint which some people find useful is to grease the polybushes with coppaslip before fitment . Not only does this make them easier to fit, but it helps to prevent the dry squeak which some people experience

Christopher,

I have used Polybushes all over my car and they supply a custom white grease with them, is that just mine or do all suppliers give the grease?

The reason I ask is that I have heard many people say use some sort of grease or other so I just want to ask why not use the grease supplied?

Dave

Dave : the ones I bought did not have grease with them, so I used coppaslip . In your case I would definitely use the grease that has been supplied with them
