Securon automatic belts.
#1 Securon automatic belts.
I’m about to replace a set of static seatbelts with Securon Automatic ones. Haven’t started yet but, insofar as I can see, I will be able to use the same mounting points. Can anyone who has done this before confirm or deny? Also any other advice gratefully received. No matter how elementary.

It would be helpfully if you told us what car you have...even better if you put your model and name in the signature area....Steve

#3 Re: Securon automatic belts.
Yes I found my original static belts very awkward and replaced them with Securon automatic ones.
The fitting of the stalk on the transmission tunnel and the end of the belt on the floor on the opposite side are both straightforward. The problematic part is fitting the reel to the fitting under the side window.
There is not room to bolt the reel straight on due to the wheel arch so I used a "Z" shaped bracket to move it out and forward slightly. The problem is that there is no way to fix it securely so it cannot move. The movement of the belt as you drive causes it to pull on the reel at slightly different angles which has the effect of gradually loosening the mounting bolts. As you probably know the reel has to be adjusted in two planes to suit its angle of fitment. As soon as it moves a bit it stops the mechanism working properly.
I lived with it for quite a while, just tightening the mounting bolts every so often. It was safe and it worked - mostly - but I found it less than satisfactory and in the end I changed them for more traditional belts - like the static ones with aircraft type buckles but with an automatic reel which is mounted on the wheel arch.
I see Steve has just raised a point. My car is a FHC. If you have an OTS I don't know if my comments are relevant.

Thanks. My belts came with a Z bracket which I’m using but I take your point about holding the reel firmly. I’m actually having some trouble fitting the stalk - it fouls the seat and I’m going to have to make up a bracket to extend it. My car is a series 2 FHC. Hopefully I’ve added this to the bottom of future postings.
