This maybe of interest to those who are interested in "original look"
I have after a lot of searching found an aircraft component that fits inside the original switch. It does exactly the same job but is 100% reliable! ( a bit of a fiddle to fit though)

Very interesting. Please post a description of what you have done along with photos of the process.

Is this the type of switch you are using or have you found something more reliable?

I used a switch that is used in eurofighters (so probably quite reliable!) a friend got them for me. I had terrible trouble finding something small enough to fit in the original casing and able to swich enough current. ( not a major problem as it is an OBL car and hence has a fan relay). It requires quite a bit of metal removal from the old bi-metal strip holder, and a deicate soldering job. It switches at 5 degrees lower than the original spec which I consider an advantage!
