Now regretting not going with Fosseway right from the start, as even things as simple as hoses have now been rendered complicated and unsatisfactory, by SNGB and Robey at least.
I couldn't see why anyone would bother to market their own hoses (Wilkinson does too) but I'm beginning to understand.
My C18987 and C14999/1 hoses from SNGB were recently supplied as a bits of parallel hose ; they don't fit the 5/8" water-pump stub C17421.
I queried this and never got a reply from them ; their in-tray must be so full of queries about parts that are incorrect, you end up feeling sorry for the staff.
So I ordered the same C14999/1 reference, but from Martin Robey this time.
Aside from the fact they sent my stuff to the wrong address, ignored emails, and incurred quite unnecessary expense (£27.60 to ship 500 grs to France ? Either they're getting stung, or I am), the hose is a joke.
It needs to be about 100 to 120mm long and taper from 5/8" to 1/2".
Theirs is 220 mm long, and tapers from 5/8" to 3/8", so you pay £6 for a hose and have to chuck away half of it whilst guessing where to make two cuts to get a best-fit on your pipes.
At the same time I ordered from Robey the C12630 hose between the lower water-pump and the elbow towards the bottom radiator, which has been out of stock for months with SNGB.
Both ends of this hose should be circa 42mm so as to be a tight push over both the water pump and the steel elbow ; in fact they are a swimmingly-sloppy 45mm and 44mm, and as there is no "spring" in the material you get a horrible Wellington-boot effect where the circlip is destined to go.
Now, I know that these can be made to work,
but WTF could they not just make parts that fit ?!
Maybe they could just make stickers that say "This One Fits" ?
They wouldn't need to print so many.
Could somebody measure their heater-rail pipe (under the carbs) and tell me it's not my car - mine was remade in stainless but to copy from an original part ?
