#1 Changing the clutch check list

Post by Grant » Thu Oct 15, 2020 8:19 pm

Good evening all,

I have had a look on here ,but their are apparently 110 posts on here titled “changing the clutch “ and I’ve not found what I’m looking for which is a list of others things I should change , I’ve never done this before and I’m doing it with a mechanic friend but he has never done a jag before.
So is there a list anywhere on her or does any body have any recommendations? I do not want to rebuild the whole car but as the engine will be out I do not want to miss any thins I should of changed.

Thank you in advance as always

Grant

Thank you Steve , that’s perfect , out of interest do you buy it as a whole unit bolt out bolt in or do you rebuild the one that’s in there? Normally

Hi
Change for new one, it's not a big price and it's really more secur.
Buy a set Cluch / release bearing it's preferable to not buy them separeted

Double check that the release bearing is correct when you reconnect gearbox to engine by just ensureing clutch fork is in the correct position......also worth checking rear gearbox oil seal...is it leaking.....Steve

Hi Grant,be aware that there are a lot of bad throw out bearings out there, you could end up doing the clutch job twice! On some the carbon bonding does not hold on others the carbon disintegrates?
