Hi Hayden,
Welcome...
Are you looking for a 'ready to go driver', or a restoration project,,, or a bit of both.. ?
You need to carefully look at the body as these old cars were and are notorious for corrosion.
Rear inner and outer wheel arches, sills, floors and front bulkhead, boot floor, and of course the signature bonnet....
The corrosion could be extensive , relatively minor or approaching zero.
Filler can hide the corrosion.
Restored vehicles will have 'some' filler for fairing the body ahead of painting, but if extensive then it could be hiding something.
The e type is really well catered for when it comes to replacement body panels and parts, however those body panels have to be fitted which is extensive and time consuming work, particularly when digging away at rusted floors, wheel arches and sills.
I'm in the middle of restoring the body shell of my series 3, so I've first hand experience. Its a long job.
If you are prepared or intend to spend 10's of thousands on the initial purchase , its critical to make sure the body is sound or at least aware, know where and what needs to be done.
The running gear such as engine, gearbox, axle/IRS , suspension, although relatively costly in terms of parts, are pretty straight forward to fix by any competent DIY mechanic with a bit of adventurous spirit.
For some tasks I often plan to do it twice ..!
What you don't want is the scenario, 'after removing the engine I've found corrosion and holes in the bulkhead , or inner/outer wheel arches after removing the IRS'
Theres plenty of sharks out there, beware ,,,
My XKE project is a nostalgic dream come true for me, I just gotta get it finished and out on the open road :)
Good luck :)

That seller is Innes, from Merlins Warehouse.
I have bought 3 cars from him since 2015 and he is good to deal with. All sight unseen through photographs.
I had a structural corrosion problem with one that was not declared at the point of sale. I rang him up, he repaid me in full and collected it from Nottingham a couple of days later. It hadn't been inspected prior to being sent to me, he admitted he didnt know. No problems.
His email is xk120nut@yahoo.com
That green Roadster looks pretty good to me. The bonnet does not look like is has been shut properly in the pics. I am sure all the old rubber bits and seals will need attention at some time in the future like they all do every 15 years or so.
It probably has the US carbs of the time, twin Stombergs. The Strombergs are good carbs if you remove the secondary butterflys and they are set up by someone who knows what the are doing. You can of course spend bucket loads on induction at a later date if you feel like it.
I would probably leave it LHD. However, Converting to RHD is no big drama. The parts are around £3k max and it takes 3 days. If you are lucky the wiring loom might be ok, even though it is 50 years old. To convert to RHD it needs shortening and re-terminating behind the dash panels (Hutsons sell the dash panels).
Removing the US side markers and touching it in is also no big drama.
I am sure a few other things will at least want looking at (cooling system), thats old cars for you.
I would probably go for it after he had sent me more pictures at that sort of price.

I can vouch for Innes.
I actually bought the “scrappy lhd XK120”. It was even worse than scrappy but now,18 months later, is fully restored and looking not too shoddy at all.!
Innes was very straightforward, happy to put up with the four of us crawling all over it for a good couple of hours, allowed us to strip down various bits to get a better look, and was prepared to be reasonable on price.
Seemed genuine throughout, answered lots of questions, produced all the paperwork, and I’d certainly deal with him again.
Having said all that I’d still be very wary of buying anything without seeing and examining it first.
Hope this helps.

I see that the seller in Perth is advertising the documents to “create” an etype.

I had exactly that done four years ago. What starts off as a price idea starts to get bits added that "seem nice to do whilst it's there". I spent £30k in the end. I would recommend you talk to Angus Moss as others have recommended. I generally give him a lot of stick in person and a fair bit on this forum, but he is extremely knowledgable and will freely give you his advice about buying. He trades cars as well as restores so may have something up his sleeve. He will also check out a prospective purchase for a reasonable fee.max-it-out wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 3:19 pmThat S 2 roadster looks quite nice - price seems reasonable * if * the bodywork is in good nick . For ex US cars , you need to factor in the cost of : triple Su conversion , diff. ratio change ( 3.54 to 3.07 ) and RHD conversion . That might be as much as £ 15 k ( done by specialist ) . Then you need to consider that the car will be worth less than the equivalent genuine UK RHD car .
I have learnt that there are great resources here and knowledgable people. Use them and learn, I bought a car because I fell in love with it but actually was lucky and it was a good one. People like Angus can steer you in the right direction (do I get a discount next time Mr Moss??? )
