Removing the rear side marker lights
#1 Removing the rear side marker lights
I'm looking to remove the rear marker light on my american s2 FHC and wonder if anyone knows of a supplier of blanking plates to fill the holes left after the lights are removed?
TIA,
Dave

#2 Re: Removing the rear side marker lights
One enterprising owner at Bicester a few years ago simply used some black masking tape over the hole. He had a black car and I didn't even notice he'd done it until he pointed it out. If you get some very thin vinyl and spray that body colour, then you'll achieve the same for next to no cost.
There are no blanking plates for this application. The two common alternatives are to weld or bond a metal plate to the inside and paint body colour or fit aftermarket side marker lenses in clear or smoke grey colour or any other colour you like if you so chose. This makes for a better colour match and so hides the side markers better.
The xj12 side repeaters are thinner than the etype ones - same Lucas part number. This makes them less obtrusive than the bulky etype ones.
kind regards
Marek

I removed mine on my XKE S2 FHC when it was returned to full UK spec, just get them welded up for the best result.

Thank you for all the replies. The fix appears to be easier than I thought.

Does the petrol tank have to come out to get to the left hand marker - especially if welding around there?

As the paintwork on my car was/is nice, I have used little black plastic plugs as a temporary solution until they can be welded properly up and painted. Being a darker colour they don't stand out too much...

Dear Dave
I also have a set in smoke grey colour - that might suit even better given your car is grey.
kind regards

Thank you for the offer, however the car is Ascot Fawn so the clear work best.
