Post by jens_dk » Fri Mar 11, 2011 3:47 pm

Hi I am currently repainting my 1965 Jaguar E-type OTS but which color is the best one for that type of car? I hope you guys can help me :)

This ought to set off quite a discussion! I think that the best color for your car is the one that you personally like best. That having been said, I also think that it's hard to beat one of the opalescent colors, particularly blue, green and grey. It'll be interesting to see what the other members think.

First choice has to be what is on the Heritage certificate. If that is not to your taste then any combination from the Jaguar pallet of 1965 probably giving priority to one of the Opalescent colours. You may want to think twice about Opalescent Gunmetal which, although gorgeous to look at, seems to make the car invisible to other road users :? Bear in mind colour is affected by latitude - what looks good in California might not look good in Scandinavia. Non standard colours are best avoided.

Yep. Gun Metal does make the car invisible which is why I have fitted LED sidelights into the headlights for daytime running. Still love it as a colour though.

As an aside I own about 50 guns of various sorts (rifles, pistols, shotguns, flintlocks) spanning 250 years and none of them display a colour close to what Jaguar called 'Gunmetal'. Marketing men - don't you just love 'em

An OTS in particular also looks splendid in dark blue or indigo, with a blue hood

Well, I have to go for the Ferrari Red. You either like them or you hate them. But for a Series 1 OTS they do look good in the flesh. I also like grey and green and blue

According to a JEC survey a couple of years ago opalescent sliver blue E-Types sell faster than any other colour. Not that it should influence you.
My car is opalescent silver blue with a dark blue hood and interior by far the best colour combo of the lot.

You could always go for the most rare colour....black. It looks stunning for about 6 minutes after polishing for 2 hours....then the dust / cat paw prints / duck foot prints start to gather to ruin what was perfection.

Well if I were you, first of all, I will choose an existing color for the E-Type in 1965. Then between all these colors I will choose an opalescent one.

Furthermore, you need to choose a color adapted to your interior.

I can't say more than this...
