#1 Fitting windscreen top caps

Post by tim wood » Thu Jul 29, 2021 10:52 am

Hi,
Has anyone else had issues with the fitment of the chrome screen caps on open cars. Part numbers BD15508/9.

I’ve purchased some repros in advance of my forthcoming screen out repaint and these not only look slightly different but also I can’t get them to fit. The originals, whilst corroded fit perfectly.
It looks like all of the usuals sell the same poor quality part.

Any thoughts?

Tim, if you can still return the repros do not hesitate, and look for originals even if battered or have yours rechromed.

Hi Ralph,
That looks to be the case. At the moment the seller isn’t responding so it looks like I will be raising a claim through the card company.

Regards and hope all is well

The rear number plate chrome surrounds are likewise of poor quality.

So an update, the supplier has called me, maybe they read this forum?
They have offered to “look into the issue if I return the parts” so that’s underway.

To get some idea I had a web chat with another major supplier about the screen caps . The response was “ I have no idea about this part” and then terminated the call !!

It’s as easy to get it right as it is to get it wrong. But customer service at this level is disgraceful. I suppose we are a captive audience.

That’s me for the day rant over.

All the replacement screen caps I have seen from the "usual suppliers" do not match the originals on my S2. The fit and shape is not good and can lead to water leakage. Very much a case to repair originals if you can.
