Instrument rims
#1 Instrument rims
Hi all, the black rims on the instruments of my S1 4.2 are in poor shape, with bubbling paint and pitting. The instruments themselves are all in good shape. Does anyone know if it possible to purchase new rims? I have looked on line but could not locate anything. Many thanks.

Hi,
These guys:

And search for bezel or bezels.
I sanded mine down, used a primer/filler spray and repainted in black. Are yours too far gone?

They are usually relatively easy.to remove. You may need to prise the tabs ever so slightly....no need to bend straight....then the bezel will twist and can be removed when the tabs line up with slots in the flange...just don't let the glass drop out!

+1 for that….don’t expect anything retro to fit…..then you won’t be disappointed….your bezels are worth keeping….sand/etch prime and top coat….
All the best

I agree
I used a can spray of satin black …lovely finish
BTW should there be a rubber seal under the rim between it and the glass? Mine had something crumbly and disintegrated in it that needed removing
Also should there be a rubber ring between the lip of the actual instrument and the dashboard??

+1 for sanding, priming and painting the rims. Done it on 2 cars now.
Glass (just in case) and rubber seals from e-bay and only a few quid.
I bought a make up face powder brush to lightly brush the dust off the faces.

Thanks everyone for the replies - I'll try rubbing them down and repainting before I look at new ones.
