#1 "Long Skirt" Nylon insert nuts source

Post by pgh64 » Wed Sep 22, 2021 11:07 pm

Anybody have a verifiable source for these C.8667 "Long Skirt" 5/16"-24 3/4"H nylon insert lock nuts? I've tried getting them from sources on both sides of the pond with no luck. They're either not available at all, too short or the wrong thread. I tried Namrick UK and British Fasteners USA, nuts from the former came in too short and they were N/A at the latter. These are used all over the front subframe and elsewhere.

TIA!

When I restored by 3.8, I purchased the complete fastener set from Monocoque Metalwork. Drop Chuck an email, he may be able to help.

C8667 nuts come in a range...with a / indicating the type. ...so c8667/1...c8667/7 etc.....most suppliers have locknuts in half...standard...thick sizes..have you asked for thick nut.....Westfield fasteners have them at 0.344in thick.......Steve

60 years has passed, and sadly the current vendors will sell you anything that will do the job.

Getting an identical fastener to what was originally used is often impossible.

I've tried ordering "thick", "heavy", "NU" and "P Type". All wrong. It's the height that seems to be the challenge. While the nut is a simple 5/16 UNF nylon insert, the OEM nuts Jaguar used are .7/16" tall. I'll try Westfield though, Cheers.

I think there may be a misapprehension/misdescription here about these nuts . They are shown in the parts catalogue as 34 of C8667/2 self locking and 2 of C8667/3 self locking. These are 5/16 UNF and 3/8 UNF respectively and the 8667 denotes that they are all what Jaguar described as Tall Skirt . I am pretty sure that these are what are now described as Nyloc P type nuts, the T type being the short skirt which carry a C8737 part number in Jaguar parlance. I have never seen an E type with anything like 3/4 inch deep nuts

PS nor, when I think about it, have I ever seen disproportionately deep nylocs, which 3/4 inch depth on a nut of 1/2" diameter( which the 5/16 UNF are ) most certainly would be

Got it. Thanks. Unfortunately Chuck doesn't have these, and most of the stuff he does have is all gold zinc Grade 8

The correct frame nylocs are taller than type P, also a thicker than standard washer is used .
The only place i have managed to source these nylocs from is Uryk at E Type Fabs - he will have a full frame fitting kit if you need bolts and shims too.
