Hello everyone!
I am a new member and happy to have joined. My name is Stefan, I am 37 and mad about E-Types since a long long while. Well I will try my best with my English but begging for forbearance.
My E-Type journey is already ongoing for a while now, whereby I have the feeling that it just could have come to an end.
I started at the age of 20, which is now 17 years ago. All of my cars were self earned.
Loving this car since I am 10 year old, the prices came just back from the hype in the late 80ies early 90ies, and in 1994 my saving matched for the first time the one and only offer below 20k (Deutsche Mark) for a S2 FHC with engine compartment fire. So I bought the car, sold it for a bad 4.2 S1 FHC, then sold this one, got my first drivable S1 4.2, did some work on it and then exchanged it again into a much better red FHC S1 4.2. Having achieved already the magnificent S1 car, I started now to look for earlier cars. Why? Well I think I just wanted the purest E-Type. And so I bought an additional FHC Flatfloor for restauration. At this time my desire was born to once own an ouside bonnet latch car and if possible an FHC coupe.
My exchange journey went on and so I sold both FHCs and first time bought a Flatfloor S1 Roadster, which I still own. It is 875521 with matching numbers, almost no corrosion and original bonnet. I know, I am a jerk but it still awaits restoration since 1997. The engine as well as axels, brakes etc. need attention. But I focused first in investing into the internet bubble, then started fulltime working (not only beside school and university) and additionally bought a DHC wreck but an outside bonnet latch roadster in 2002. Beforehand I purchase also in 1997 a title with original VIN plate of 875303. Unfortunately I sold this piece after the purchase of "the wreck". At this stage my portfolio remained until last year (well I added a MGB GT V8 Costello Mk1 to my collection).
Last year I decided not to try anymore to lose more money at the stock marked and bought a 63 FHC and decided that it should be done by a professional rather than doing it by myself!
And just the last month I sold my outside bonnet latch roadster "the wreck" and purchase imho the last available outside bonnet latch coupe on the marked. This is why I feel my journey could have come to an end. Supposedly this car is the only white (cream) / red outside bonnet latch coupe ever produced and if so, it could be that she was the motive for a huge advertising campagne initiated by Jaguar Cars New York (a cream MK2 and a cream outside bonnet latch coupe at a blue background). I have to admit, that white or cream is not my first choice of colour but there is not alternativ, no choice....
So, I hope I did not bore you too much with my E-Type story. Pictures of my cars will follow soon (potentially in the next 4-8 weeks.)
Regards
Stefan

So, hier treffen wir uns also auch schon wieder :-)
(We know each other from a german citroen forum :-))
Carsten
P.S. you should have invested in GOLD, not in the stock market. That's only paper- do something "metal-lish" :-)

Hi Carsten,
Nice to meet you here as well!
Regarding my non-car related investments - this topic has now been closed for a long time. Not only all my current assets are bound now in my cars but also some future ones. And my former investment decisions, well, they are long ago and what happened, happened. Next time I hope to act more wisely.
How about your E-Type? The body is ready and painted?Engine already overhauled?
Regards
Stefan

Hi,
no- the body is painted (I bought it painted from Pete, so .....),
but I overhauled a LOT of tech bits, galvanized a LOT of them.
On the list for this year is to re-put the interior, re-fit the front frames + all tech bits EXCEPT the engine, cause these are the last 3 bits to overhaul: Engine, IRS, bonnet. And buy new tyres + look for rims.
All other parts are nice + shiny, so I am really on the road down to put it all back together.
BUT I only have 3 to 5 hours a week, at night, and this costs SO much time, darn...... thus it'll take ages and ages.
Carsten
P.S:- and money is tight as ever, inflation arrived and everything revs up. My favorite joghurt is now 30ct more then 2 months ago ! So I am also doing it on a shoestring.... which does not make it easier in the end.
PPS- you don't have someone to buy my VERY GOOD LHD Pagoda ?

Welcome Stefan. Look forward to seeing some photos of your car(s).
Don't worry about your English, probably as good as most of us on this forum sometimes and my German stops at 'Guten'.
Are you coming over to Silverstone in July?
Angus

Hi Angus and Erik,
Thank you very much for the wishes.
Yes, when I found this forum I was very happy as it really addresses what I was looking for. Beforehand I was always looking at xked.com, also a great site but unfortunately without forum and jaglovers is good but I did not find too much E-Type specifics. So I am excited to have found this forum and to be a member!
Regarding the visit to Silverstone, yes I am intending to come over. But first I am not sure, if I get 885017 (my outside bonnet latch coupe) converted to original specs before coming over (might then come with inside latch & non welded louvers), which I would love to and second I have to admit, that I really financially streched myself to the maximum to buy this car, so not much money left in the next few months.
I will see knowing about the one time chance to visit Silverstone and to see so many E-Types.
Regarding this visit, are there any normal priced hotels with a decent car park ideally with CCTV and locked? And how do I get a ticket for the infield of the Silverstone race track as I do not want to park this car somewhere outside at a car park?!
Thanks again for your warm welcome!
Regards
Stefan
