#1 Wide Angle Head

Post by richard btype » Sun Dec 19, 2021 7:10 pm

I would appreciate a simple understanding of what the benefits are of the wide angle cylinder head over the standard cylinder head?

Wider angle usually means the option to fit larger valves.

Richard, wikilies has some info about the XK engine and says the wide angle head was used in the D Type, XKSS and prototype E2A. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_XK_engine
AJ6eng and Coolcat have info, too. I hope that could help.

I wouldn`t mind fitting one of these , if one became available . I wonder how it would suit a road car , as opposed to a racer ? IIRC the wide angled 3.4 they built for the XKSS recreation did 270 BHP on the dyno :santa:

Why did they never include them in production cars, maybe as a Sports option ?

It's interesting, as they are I think couple of manufacturers of this rather unique and uniquely sold head...
