Jacking point profile

Hello everyone firstly happy new year to all.
Now, I realise this may be a numpty question but… why are the jacking points different profiles? Is it to give the same height underbody? is it to miss something?.
I’m about to replace the panels on my S3 OTS that these are welded to and wonder why we have two types..

All 4 jack points should be the same as far as im aware......a small nipple/stud that your jack slots into......see SNGB jack point or google for photo.....Steve

Your reply prompts me to check up on the new points available, front and back seem different, the rear is a little taller but once this is fitted it still seems higher off the floor now I double check, any thoughts?
As they have a grooved profile do they “clip into “ some type of jackpad?

Hello Steve,
They are in fact different. Although the Top Hat section that the jack engages with is the same, its perched on a higher profile base for the rears than for the fronts.

The reason is that the rears are located up in a bit of a pocket formed by the vertical, circa 1/2" edge where the Sill is spot welded to the Under Body structure. The Jacking Points at the front are attached to the lowest and most vulnerable part of the floor.

My mistake i was just thinking of the part the jack slots into and not tbe whole mount.....we have a Parts catalogue in the Knowledge base....easy to look there and see the different part numbers of fronf/rear....Steve
