Which engine oil?

I have tried a few different phrases in the search, but keep getting ' your search query were ignored because they are too common words'

So which brand of engine oil are you folks using in your S1's, when I rebuilt my Moke 20 or so years ago, I used Millers Oils Classic Pistoneeze 20W50 Engine Oil as it had an oldish 1275cc that I rebuilt and dropped in it, and as the engine in the E-Type has also been fully rebuilt, its an old engine, so would modern oil's be suitable to use?

Personally, I don't think it matters too much. I use mineral 20/50, not semi-synthetic although I know some do.
I've used Millers, commer, castrol GTX and Halfords classic. All seem to do a fine job! I've done many miles with no sign of engine wear and exceptionally good oil pressure.

I am currently using SHELL X100 20/50, the one in the retro looking cans, but they don't seem to be making it anymore. Shame as it was really good with very high levels of zinc. I will probably start using VALVOLENE 20/50 although I am considering using RED LINE synthetic 20/50.

I agree entirely. Especially as we end up changing our oil and filters far more frequently that in any other car.

I use the cheapest brand name mineral 20W 50 oil I can find. Valvoline XLD is my go to but I'm not sure if that's available where you live.

I used the 20W50 Millers oil until recently when I discovered their 20W60. Semi-synthetic. I’ve been using these oils for years, and many thousands of miles. So far, the predictions of doom that the interweb usually prompts using synthetic/semi-synthetic oil (or any other part or consumable that wasn’t originally spec’d for the car) have failed to come to pass. I change oil and filter up to twice a year, depending on mileage. And I buy it in 20litre drums - two oil changes in one purchase.

Valvoline VR1 Racing, Dino oil, good for street flat tappet cars with it's ZDDP levels, the variety in the Silver bottle with detergent, (not the flat out Race oil also known as a VR1 synthetic in Black bottle.)
Top rated standard oil for wear characteristics, pressure, and temp breakdown.
I use 10/30 in a good engine for better flow and lubrication, as spec'd by Jag Factory Manual under General Information, Recommended Lubricants, "...a slight increase in oil consumption may be noticed but this will be compensated by the advantages gained."
And that was back when oils were not nearly as good as today.
