#1 So today we mainly...

Post by Javelin » Fri Feb 11, 2022 7:22 pm

So today we mainly bit the bullet and ....

after 42 years since it last run and 35 years since it was re-built, today we started the engine! What a sweet sound to our ears it was, Barrie & I stood either side of the car grinning at each other like a couple of school kids   . Can of petrol in the boot hooked up to the fuel line, ignition on then sort out all the fuel leeks :wow: a press of the button and away she went, we couldn't be more pleased, few things to sort out such as new points & condenser, as these were the 40+ year old set which we had forgotten about and looking at them later, it was a surprise it started.

Another phoenix rises. That is a great achievement. And the most useful of the E-Type variants. I hope it rewards the hard work with many miles of pleasure.

And today we fit the new points/condenser, had a play around with the timing and got the carb linkages working together, one carb is still sticking slightly, not sure if its the linkage or the float sticking but we'll sort it out. Engine is running sweet & smooth now, really nice tone from the rather small bore exhaust.

And today we mainly .... for the first time in 28 years, removed the timber blocks from under the wheels and sat her on the tyres  Coudn't get over how low it is after the roof being at eye level for so long :wow: .
Oh, and the surpises keep coming, the fuel tank leaks like a sieve! New one on order.
