Special tool ?

Putting the car back in the garage after a run , and noticed the ignition key was quite hot , never noticed this before , so I thought I would take the switch out and have a look to see if anything was amiss . Unfortunately , I can`t remove the chrome ring which surrounds the lock . It has 2 slots in the outer edge . Do I need a special tool to undo this ?

On this most recent trip , I had the fans on and the side lights - would this explain why the key was hot ? The switch and contacts look fairly new and in good condition .

Long nose pliers...or circlip pliers....hot switch..u need a relay if you dont already have one...look in upgrade section....or a loose connection causing high resistance and pulling too nuch current....Steve

I had the exact same issue, changed to a relay and its gone. You don't need to take the switch out, it can all be done in situ.The above link is my post so read that and obviously go to the upgrades section to see how to.
