Hi Mark
I recognize that I?m a litle mad about classic Jaguar, and loves E Types in particular, I know that is not practical to own many similar cars , but it is like a fever, and I?m very happy owning them. I?m not trying to have one of each colour as you said, neither one of each model. Can you imagine what a collection ??
Probably I own some E Types also for a sentimental reason for the following explanation
My father bought in the sixties an old english white 1964 S1 3.8 OTS, I still remembar as if were yesterday, the engine sound of this E Type been a child, the inner smells, and be on the road with my father and me seating in the passanger seat, also I remenbar to wash the car during hours at the week ends, polishing the chrome bumpers and cleaning the wire wheels at home garage been a child, so as you can imagine I love the the E Type from that date, and they represented a lot for me.
My father keep the car and used it regularity during the years, and in my 18 years old birthday, he gaves it to me as a birthday present. He told me I know that you love this car really much, your are the younger of your brother and syster, but they are not really interesting on it, so I?m sure that it will goes to a good hands been now yours, he advice to me, please be carefull when breaking and when cornering, could be a dangerous car is you drive very fast, enjoy it as I did.
Now I?m 43 years old, and I still keep this E Type of course, it is the old english white in the top picture with my wife at the wheel in front of the red S2 OTS.
I have two daughters, and my intention is to give the 1964 3.8 OTS as a present to my oldest daughter Marta, that now is 12, on her 18 years old birthday, so my 18 years old birthday present will be her 18 years old birthday present. I love this idea, and I tell her that if she takes good care of it, she ready has a good present for the 18 brithday of her future daughter or son, will be fantastic at list 3 generations.
The 1962 OTS will be for my youngest daughter Elena, that now is 9 years old, also for her 18 birthday present, she choosed the outer and inner colours with me from the E Type colour chart before respraying, and when a school friend of her is coming home to play with, she goes straight to the garage to show her car in rebuilt process to her friends and give some explanations and details about her car to the other childs. She usually paint E Types in pieces of paper and hang the pictures on her room wall, also she knows how every toggle switch works, and every time that I drive an E Type with her on the side, I?m prepare for answer a battery of questions from her about the car.
When we are on the road she normally put her hand over the gear lever because she likes the feeling of the gear change. I think she loves the E Types as much as me.
Talking about the 1970 willow green S2 OTS, it is my wife E Type. I gave it to her as a present for her 40 years old birthday last year.
So I hope that you undesrtand my devotion about the E Types, just because they are part of my life, and I really enjoy them with all my family members as much as we can, it is easy to see us with two E Types on the road the week ends enjoying a drive, so they are more than a car for us, they are part of our way of live.
