water pump pulley frustration 67 fhc
#1 water pump pulley frustration 67 fhc
Looking for a pulley,(water pump) but do I need a 'w'belt ?? my bottom pulley is a single grove, my alternator pulley does not line up rite, moss book shows c25083, so much unknown on this darn basket case, does someone have picture of what should really be on the front of this engine, cannot find part c25083 on ebay,
afraid to start ordering parts when I do not really know what I am doing.

All 4.2 E-Type's had Duplex (twin groove) pulleys - crank, alternator, water pump - and matching belt, W in cross section:

I had this problem with my series 2, I fixed it by turning up a new pulley that carried the correct V groove and the off-set to bring it all into line. I can take a photo and post it if needed, also my alternator bkt. looks different to yours, cheers John.

can someone give me a belt number for a car, with NO a/c and no power steering 4.2 motor.thanks Mike.

Big mistake on my part, well got the pulleys, ($200.00) now the pulley for the alternator does not fit,
the w pulley has a smaller hole then the v pulley, regret trying to get this car back to stock,
Guys, the w belt, I am in Canada, order from sng battet, with shipping/vat and taxes is crazy,
in Canada all belts have a number, that ends with length, someone must know the GATES number or
is it a secret, and yes Steve I have looked for 1/2 hour on previous posts, does anyone know if
an xj6 belt would fit?? suggestion to other guys, if u have a v belt, leave it, too much trouble
to get it done rite.

Thanks Steve, 43 5/16 in, that helps alot. thank you, I do find this forum is better then the U.S. and just
trying to save a few $$$. I have been buying on ebay u.s. but again, being in Canada and ordering
parts we get taxed to death, an example when I buy in u.s., first u.s. tax 5 %, then shipping cost
is about $30.00 u.s., ahh then, customs brokers take their cut, oh yes then we have to pay quebec
and canada tax, about 15 % a $10.00 item on purchase is now about $40.00, even if I buy from MOSS
which is the big dealer in north america I still get dinged by all these add-ons. Mike.

Maybe that is probably why the previous owner reverted to a more standard arrangement in the past….

Photo of the one that I made for my Series 2. Not cheap as a block of alli is expensive but looks quite smart.

Hi I have the belt off my car in my hand, number on the outside is C24291C,as of late the quality of the w belts has not been good some have resorted to running two small single belts, number is 3VX430 3/8"x 43"long,gives a degree of redundancy as well.

Hi Mark......im now loosing track of this thread.......what parts of your pully system is non standard.....we already gave you the dimensions of the belt that should be correct for a standard set up c24291 as 43in.......if your non standard then you need to run a tape around your pullys and get a measurement.....then look for a belt that size....we cannot give you a part number or belt size for a set up we dont know............do you have the small jockey wheel fitted thats spring loaded....is this causing problems....if so you can remove it and just adjust the belt at the alternator......Steve

Hi again, my parts look the same as above pic, pulleys look the same, measurement shows the minimum size belt is 48 inches, checked with tape measure., check pulley size, they ""look""" the same, I have the alternator sitting rite against the block, measurement is done without the tensioner in place, wish I owned a cell, I would take a pic. I have been restoring cars for 55 years, I may try to buy two normal v belts
and see if that works. I see no other solution if I cannot find a belt around 48 - 50 inches.

Do you still have the original V belt pulleys? If so why not revert to the original set-up by getting a local lathe owner (model engineers clubs) to turn up a water pump pulley for you. If you were in the UK I could make one for you at cost of materials only. You could also get the alternator pulley bored out to fit your alternator, a simple job on a metal lathe including cutting the key way slot ( 30 mins max to do), are you using the correct 11AC unit or do you have an upgraded set up?
