well….the short version is I think I’ve got a little bit of an improvement

First thing I did was to change the pads to EBC green stuff type which were a little bit of a tight fit into the Zeus alloy callipers, but fit they did eventually

I then took the car for a short test drive, and I felt that there was something of an improvement, so perhaps the old pads were slightly contaminated

Next thing this morning was the use of gauge test kit kindly loaned by Dave K which showed I initially had a vacuum pressure of roundabout 15 to begin with which by adjusting the eccentric bolt, I managed to increase to a maximum of around about 18, not quite getting it to 20 as the manual recommends

Overall the brakes seem a little better

Perhaps what does also influence my perception of the car last weekend was driving it back to back with my old 911 which has no servo at all and requires the pedal to be pushed very firmly (and offers quite a firm resistance in operation)

The Jaguar pedal is pushed so incredibly easily in relative terms…perhaps giving me the impression that the brakes are not working

Having taken both cars out again today, there is the same difference in braking style but it does come to a stop better than it felt it was doing last weekend.

So an interesting experience to learn a bit more about the car and I now have very clean front suspension because I couldn’t resist the temptation to do some cleaning whilst I was at it…… 8-)

New pads need bedding in so hopefully things should improve in time.

Hi!
Based on the symptoms you've described, it's possible that there is an issue with the brake servo or the master cylinders. The fact that the brakes felt vague and there was no change in resistance after repeated pumping of the brake pedal suggests that the servo may not be functioning properly.

It's also possible that there is an issue with the master cylinders, such as partially stuck plungers. This could affect the pressure and feel of the brakes.

One thing you can try is to bleed the brakes to see if this improves the feel and responsiveness of the brakes. This will also help to determine if there is any air in the system.

If bleeding the brakes doesn't help, it may be necessary to have the brake servo and master cylinders inspected by a mechanic to determine if there are any faults or issues that need to be addressed.
