#1 What Gearbox oil - Manual

Post by Deano1300 » Sun Apr 02, 2023 6:46 pm

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

Just looking for a sanity check as to what gearbox oil I should be using for a manual box Series 3. I’m looking to order Castrol Transmax Manual EP 80W-90 GL4. Is this the correct oil? Thanks in advance.

Regards
Dean

Quite a few of us use Redline MT90. If you search for these you’ll see very positive views.

Thanks Steve, Looks like I’ve ordered the wrong oil then so will order the EP90 instead. Many thanks. Much appreciated.

If you are not satisfied with your gearbox with the Castrol oil, give the Redline MT90 a go.

I am usually a complete non believer when it comes to one oil being better than another but the MT90 definitely improves the Jaguar box.

Hello Andrew,

In particular for the synchromesh gearbox, the type of oil is quite important. EP additive is important for lubricating the teeth of the gear but too high a level will affect the grip of the balk rings of the synchro hubs and can result in notchy gear changes.

Regards,

Bill

Yes I've got you there Bill. You do need to use the correct oil for the job.

I'm just not an "oils ain't oils" kinda guy.
