Hi all,

Thought I would introduce myself. Been a long time Jaguar nut, having previously owned an XJ6 series 3, an XF and current owner of an XJS. I have now inherited my mum and dads Jaguar collection after they both passed away last year. I was going to sell them all MK10, XK120, XJS convertible, X300 V12 and the E Type series 1 DHC.

However after getting the E Type started and driving all of 100 feet from one garage to another I’m now keeping it. so now I have two issues one how to store my XJS and the E Type in a single garage - I do have a 4 post lift but still not enough clearance and the next how to fit in the E so I can actually drive it properly- I am on the large size and unfortunately it’s not my height.

I dare say I will be looking and asking for information as I have lost my go to person in my dad. Dad has owned jaguars sine the late 50’s. This E Type since 1976 - Paid £750 for it. My first ride (now 57) in a car was our MK10 and we still have it but that is definitely too large to keep.

Mark, welcome to the best place for all things E Type. Lots of help, advice and a sprinkling of humour, so my first comment will be in line with that……. Lose some weight And I know of a few larger gentlemen who get into their E Types, it can be done. Have you tried adjusting the steering wheel fore/aft and even considered a smaller steering wheel?

There are several on here who successfully get an E Type on a four post lift and get a car underneath. How about a photo our two of the lift and garage to help us understand the problem and better give suggestions.

How much has the E Type run in the last twelve months? It might benefit from a good service, change of fluids, brake pads, etc. Are you happy doing most of this sort of routine servicing? The manuals really are helpful and the technical knowledge section has it for reference. There are a few good and reliable people you could turn to if you need help, so ask away if you do need. Though with the family history, maybe you’ve got good contacts already.

Geoff you sound like my wife

I’m not too bad with the spanner’s, dad ran his own garage business and restoration mainly Jaguars and passed on some skills. The XJS I have was my dad and I helped build it back in 1980, it’s based on an XJ6 fitted with a 3 litre XK engine with 3.8 triple carb head.

E type not done much running in last year with everything going on along with mum and dad passing my wife had a bad fall and had brain surgery so not a great year. Probably going to take car to Ken Jenkins Jaguar specialist who I have know for many years as I don’t have a lot of time. Still clearing Dads 7 garages and 3 sheds full of cars, tools and spares. Sold 3 Range Rovers and an XJS so far. Not even got the MK10 down of its blocks yet.

It was only the SU float vales stuck that was the issues so all running good now. Engine was only rebuilt less than 4000 ago so should all be good. Main issue I have is the clutch pedal position and obviously the steering wheel.

It’s running a 5 speed box and dad fitted XJS seats so first step is put the original ones back in and take the wheel off to see what room I have. Thinking small wheel & EZ power steering.

Mark, I promise not to nag like your wife . Ken Jenkins will be a good start and you might ask if he’s got a smaller steering wheel in stock you could try. Another idea is to fit MX5 seats, they are more comfortable than the originals, look similar and can give a bit more room. Inertia seat belts are a nice upgrade, too, if it makes fitting the belt easier.

Will you please add your name and car types to the signature area, look for your user name in the top right then in there for user control panel to do that. It just makes it nicer for people to know your name and which car type you have when responding to questions. I’d have thought your cars could go on and under that four poster, but you will have to check on that. There are some lifts designed for stacking cars, but that will mean the expense of changing it all.

You’ve had a challenging year, let’s hope it’ll all get better and you can enjoy the cars.

Welcome to the Forum! My family home is in the Chesterfield area (and I only live down on the other side of Derby) and there's usually plenty of things E-type related going on. My friend Richard Eaton and I run the lcoal section of the E-type Club (Derbyshire/Cheshire), and we have stuff already planned for this year. Don't need to be a Club memebr to come along as we have a good mix of members/non-members along. Drop me a PM and I'll get you in the loop for things.

If you need any advice, I would recommend speaking with Paul Brown of Paul Brown Classic Jaguar in Ripley - font of all knowledge when it comes to Es, and a really nice bloke. Tell him I sent you and it'll make him chuckle!

I must apologise I missed the post asking for pictures of the XK120. Only just seen it over a year late.

In the last twelve months still sorting out the house and must confess that I still haven’t used the E Type I would have done on Friday but the brakes were stuck on, don’t you just love old cars.

I’ve sold the MK10, XJS convertible and the XJ12 so at least I have made some progress. Even after all this time I still keep finding bits.
