#1 One rear amber flasher not working.

Post by Duncjohnston » Sat Jul 08, 2023 4:03 pm

One rear amber flasher refusing to work. I’ve checked the the unit which is new, I have a good earth, the bulb is ok, the power coming through the wire is fluctuating from 1.5v up to 8v then down again to anything in between. I’ve been back to this problem several times to check and recheck with the same occurring each time.
This is now a tearing my hair out time and with not a lot left on my head I would prefer to keep it all.
Can anyone please help

So is this the s3 car you were asking about in another thread?

If so, the s3 has all of the indicators in parallel. That's the two indicators per side, the green tell-tales in the dash and any additional side repeaters.

If it only happens to one item, it follows that you must have a wiring problem.

When you say "it's fluctuating", does that mean just in general, or is that because you are operating the indicators?

Also, is this pattern repeated for the hazard lights?

Do you have a wiring diagram?

kind regards
Marek

Maybe the bulb looks ok but is still OC, I had a fuse looking perfect and was still open circuit. I would check whether the same conditions exist on the working side as 8V seems a bit low. Is the dash indicator flashing as normal, is the front bulb on that side correct?

Yes it’s a series 3.
Everything works as they should including the dashboard repeaters, the spotter lights have been converted to flashers. The rear light clusters are uk spec, the hazard work ok except the amber rear. Bulbs have been checked and read continuous plus tested direct off the battery so definitely not OC.

Where do I find the signature area ?

The amber voltage fluctuates when operating , I measure this direct on the amber feed wire I’ve also put a bulb direct to the feed with absolutely no light from the bulb.

Swap over the 2 sides....unit and bulbs to see if the fault moves over or stays..

I don't think I can help given the vague replies given.

Get yourself a wiring diagram and refer the faults and responses to the wiring diagram rather than using terms like "amber feed wire". We still don't even know whether you have a problem on the left or right of the car. Given that this is probably wiring related, that's kind of important.

kind regards
Marek
