#1 identifiying an e type water pump

Post by g30rg1e » Sun Jun 19, 2011 11:49 am

Hi,

This is my first post and i'm looking for help to positively identify a water pump i found amoungst some spares i recieved, from reading around and the reciept i found in the box i have established it is a v12 e type water pump but when i try to cross reference images i cant find a perfect match. The similar pumps i have seen tend to have a pipe bit at one end which this one doesnt.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks georgie.

Georgie
I can't be certain about this but that pump looks to me to be the very early V12 etype version (fitted to engines up to 7S7784). Mine is a '71 and looks like yours. A couple of years ago I had mine rebuilt and was told that this early version was no longer available anywhere; one well known supplier refused to accept that two models of pump ever existed on the S3 etype.
The early part number is GWP409 (which yours is shown to be), the later and more common pump is GWP410.
I could be wrong but you may have a pretty good nest egg in that box!
