#1 ignition light flickers on at idle

Post by John G. » Tue Oct 24, 2023 5:41 pm

Greetings all,
The question is about my MK2, but would also apply to 1961-64 E-Type generator/regulator setups.
1964 3.4 MK2. New generator and voltage regulator.
I’m just making sure the voltage regulator is properly adjusted.
I’ve adjusted the ‘cut-in’ voltage at 13 volts, which happens around 1200 engine RPMs.
I’ve adjusted the cut-out adjustment at 10 volts, which happens at 1000 engine RPMs.
Since the idle speed is around 700 RPMs with 5-6 volts generator output on the WL terminal, I would think it normal to see the ignition light flicker at idle.
Am I correct about this, or am I missing something ?
Best regards.
John G.

John, you’ll notice five suggested topics below on the same subject. Maybe looking through those and any linked topics within them could help explain the system to you. It’s one of the benefits of the forum in that associated topics listed below can give answers that a simple search hadn’t.

Good luck
