Air Filter Canister Closing Clamps or Clips

Anyone had this issue, please ?

The top clamp for the air-filter lid was already moved by the PO, as it fouled on the frame tube (you can just see the old holes).

But even by moving it to the left, it still hits the frame tube, enough to scrape it anyway.

What is the usual orientation of these clamps/clips, please ?



I could move the top one further to the left, and it would work, but it becomes horribly asymmetrical.

I can probably get all the clamps off (top one is screwed, the others would need careful drilling to release their spot-welds) and position them elsewhere, but it seems odd that this should need doing.

It's probably not a can from a S1, but a later car, as it's silver, but I'd be surprised if there were differences such as these ?

Any advice and pictures much appreciated.

Rory, on my S2 there is one catch above the forward bolt that holds the canister to the car, with the other two at 120 degrees from there. So that means one is above the inlet tubes and all well clear of any frames. To get that arrangement would mean you drilling off and re-positioning all three. Hope that helps.

More likely Doris was having a bad day with the spot welder on the assembly line.

Watch out for a post about removing tiny spot welds and moving clamp bases.

Doris may have done a complete shift making these.

I did indeed put them where they should have been.



The TIG "spot" welds are not quite original-looking but ....



It's funny, but the whole assembly must have been from another model - everything else appears to be perfect save the clip orientations. Bill Lyons keeping costs down ?



I'm not a great fan of powder-coating but on this occasion the result is okay.





The key indeed seems to be - outside clip lines up above RH mounting bolt, then the rest 120° either side.
