#1 Buying a series 1 heater motor - Suppliers?

Post by ChrisC » Wed Jun 29, 2011 10:29 am

Guys SNG no longer sell the Series 1 heater motor (although it is on their website) other than SCParts does anyone else sell the correct motor?

SC are expensive on this item so prefer to look around for a moment.

Try Hutson's and M&C Wilkinson (the latter may also have a good s/h motor). Alternative is to do the Pontiac Fiero upgrade.

Mike again? You could also try Richard Smith.

Odd this stuff is no longer stocked -wonder why? Cost, demand, lack of manufacturers?

Is there any reason why i cant use a later ignition switch?

The series 1.5/2 SNG switch looks pretty similar

The later switch is much bigger so may not fit. Lots of s/h ones around though. Do you need the barrel lock or just the switch?

Edit: Actually there seems to be plenty of room for even the seven contact switch

Just the switch as mine appears to be permanently "on" but it made a horrible graunching sound when I turned the key so I think its dead.

Mike W had one for much less that I would have had to pay SC so that progresses the wiring a step nearer firing the engine.

Staying with Heater motors - there was a discussion around how my motor was not original due to there being a lack of a flat plate that bolts the motor to the heater box.

The parts manual backs that up visually and as SNG no longer sell the motors I bought one from an alternative supplier it appears to be made by Clayton as suggested by Viper

The interesting thing is that the series 1 motor that was delivered could have the flat plate mounted as shown in the parts manual. However on the body there are also mounting plates half way up in the same place as the motor I had before.

....And the stepped plate that i had fitted perfectly. Pictures below...

Could my one have been a V12 motor body possibly?

Naturally the motor spindle is bigger than the fan so the two dont go together :(
