Adjusting the parking brake switch

Greetings all,

I have a '64 3.8 coupe. The brake warning light is constantly lit. The fluid level in the reservoirs is full. I remember that the light used to flicker a bit and pushing the hand brake lever down would cause it to flash off, but it would come back on. Now I can't get it to turn off at all.

I'm thinking there must be an adjustment for the contact switch (if there is one) that could be adjusted.

If I am correct, where is it and how is it adjusted?

The switch is in front of the handbrake lever under the carpet.

It is threaded and can be adjusted fore and aft in its bracket.

You will probably need to remove the seat for easier access.

Access to the parking brake switch requires, at a minimum, raising the rear of console several inches. To gain best access, remove the drivers seat as suggested, then remove the console. The blade type spring piece which actuates the switch is prone to weakening or breakage after 50 years and countless operations, so you might want to have one to hand before exploring. Saves time.
