LH Door Mirror
#1 LH Door Mirror
Has anyone found a source for a good remote left hand door mirror for an S3? I've purchased part #BD40822F/1 from a normally top-shelf source (I name no names) but it cannot be adjusted to give a view of the opposite lane to the rear of the car - the view is only the lower side of the rear quarter, no matter how it's installed. When I contacted the supplier, they told me it is "a design defect" - yet they keep selling them! They suggested I "adjust my position" to see the area I want - but this would mean having my head about on top of the console.

Try this: http://www.planethoustonamx.com/restora ... irrors.htm That particular mirror was an American import to the S3 E-types! Same mirror used on several AMC period cars.

OEM Parts: Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts are designed to fit exactly as intended. If you’re experiencing issues with an aftermarket part, checking with an OEM parts supplier might yield better results.
Aftermarket Brands: Some reputable aftermarket brands might offer higher-quality alternatives. Look for reviews and feedback on specific parts.

Well, that's the problem - there IS no OEM supplier, and apparently only one aftermarket supplier - at least, that I've been able to find. The major suppliers that carry this part say they both have the same source.

My oem left side mirror, moving the lever fully fore/aft moves the side of the mirror in/out by ~26 mm; moving the lever fully up/down moves the top of the mirror in/out by ~13 mm. How does yours compare? If less, try removing the control lever/escutcheon from the door and try again, is it better? Things that might make it underperform: the grub-screw that holds the head of the lever in the escutcheon might be loose; depending on which way the escutcheon is mounted the mechanism could be constrained by the metal edges of the door; or one of the (three) control cables could be broken; with the lever/escutcheon dismounted, is there any indication of this? Another thing to try, is the movement worse when the window is lowered?
These mirrors were used on lots of jaguars so don’t restrict your search to just e-type suppliers. When I wanted a right side mirror to match my oem left side I bought a 2nd hand XJ one.
