#1 lower front shock absorber bolt

Hi all,

Putting the front suspension together. The lower shock bolt does not go into the diagonal part of the wishbone as it appears to have an ear so slight step or shoulder if you will (see picture, right where the copper grease I still on there). It looks like it is supposed to be very tight in the diagonal part and has a slight bit of play in the other part of the wishbone.

Another thing is that there is also a slight bit of play between the bolt and the sleeve that holds the shock bushings.

Does anybody have experience with this, does it all tighten up when the nut goes on at the end? I am a bit worried about clonking front suspension due to play on the bolt and front part of the wishbone.

I don't think I've seen a bolt with a shoulder like that.

Does it actually fit in the hole in the rear wishbone arm?

As long as it does it should be ok as the shocker is mounted on a steel sleeve and then rubber bush so movement shouldn't be a problem once it's tightened down and pinned.

Maybe that shoulder nullifies the play when tightened, or is there a play also when fully in place?

It's possible that the shoulder is the result of the bolt fretting in the assembly due to it not being properly tightened at some point in time. The fact that there is a castle nut and split pin fitted means it isn't going to fall out but it could be free to move about a bit.

There would likely be marks showing on the bolts.

I would replace the bolts with new. Remember to get the right grade and torque them up properly.
