#1 New member from Boston

Post by jjd » Fri Mar 07, 2025 1:59 pm

Hello all,

I’m John and the new owner of a 1962 FHC in British racing green with tan interior.
Amazingly, it has under 20,000 original miles on it.
I bought the car from an estate in Massachusetts with the help of the man who had looked after it (and many other Jaguars) over the years.

It is my intention to drive this beautiful machine and, assuming there is one, I am hoping to take part in the “Following the Mille Miglia Tour 2026”.

Hello John and welcome to the best place for all things E Type. Please click on your user name top right and add your name and car type to your signature area, that way we can all address you politely and know which car you have for answering questions correctly.

Tell us more about your car, photos are always welcome. Do you plan to work on the car or have you a good mechanic to do that for you?

The search facility works well and there’s a great deal on information in the knowledge section. If you do go on road trips there’s always space in the Running Reports section to let us know how you get on and/or see if others have been there before for advice and information.

Happy driving in your E Type

Geoff, the gentleman who found the car for me will be taking care of it. We have sourced a 5 spd transmission from Jaguar (made by Gross Waithe & Gardiner). The Moss Box will go into the 5spd packing crate. We are also replacing the seats with a set that will be custom fit for me. Currently I have to cock my head 45 degrees to avoid hitting the roof. There are few other drivability changes in store but I'll save those for a later post.

Welcome John, this is definitely the place for E type knowledge and support. I also have a 62 3.8 FHC, you can look at my restoration blog on here search 860897, the chassis number . I will be very interested to hear about your 5 speed journey as I am also considering the Jaguar gearbox although its pretty expensive. It would be great to see some photos of your car.

here it is viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2185&hilit=860897#p14137

Andrew, I have tried uploading photos but it failed due to the size of the files (not less than 256kb). I tried downsizing one but could only get it down to ~300kb - this limits seems arbitrarily small in the smart phone era. Am i missing something?

Hi, after clicking on add image to post you’ll see a dropdown box at the top that says “Do not resize my image”. If you click on that and select 640x480 for message boards the upload should work. 👍

Or use Imgur as shown in this topic. It automatically resizes without any input from you
