Clear plastic tube running through bulkhead behind glovebox
#1 Clear plastic tube running through bulkhead behind glovebox
Hi all. We have a long clear(ish) plastic tube with metal fittings either end... looks like it originally came through the bulkhead through the same grommet as the heater control cables, then ran across bulkhead and down under carbs. Where it enters the bulkhead, our disassembly photos seem to show that it sat behind the glovebox, but we can't work out what it ever connected to, as we don't think it was connected when we got the car. We have a very early 4.2 RHD FHC S1 (1965).

Sounds as if it might be a tube for a mechanical (wet) oil pressure gauge. Usually these are tapped into the oil gallery at the location of the original electrical sender near the oil filer adapter. A quick look at the back of your oil pressure gauge will tell you if there is a threaded male boss to accept a tube fitting or not.

Hi Steve. Thanks for the tip. We thought the same, but there's no boss on the back of the oil pressure gauge, so rules that out. It honestly looks like it has never been fitted to anything where it comes inside the cabin. Really odd.

the question is[*] what oil pressure sender/gauge are currently installed in the car?

Maybe a temporary fix for a corroded bulkhead heater transfer pipe?
Just a thought.

What diameter is it?
Not spare screen wash tubing?
