#1 Best fit replacement side lights

Post by alunwill » Thu Apr 16, 2026 5:56 pm

Does anyone have experience of which supplier provides the best fit / replacement for series 1, front and rear light units or are they all from the same source.

Alun, there are various topics on here discussing the fit of both front and rear lights. How poor the fit is on them, the correct fit for 2+2 vs OTS, the fit of the seals. Do you have any of the original units that could be reused? Some of the tail lights can be re-chromed quite successfully and will fit better than repros.
Does MarekH make replacements? Find him on here and ask.

Hi Geoff,

Yes I went through the background articles overnight. Stuck in transit, not much to do!

I'll probably get the originals rechromed.

As a follow-up, can you get replacement internal reflectors for these lights.

Alun, I don’t know what the internal reflectors look like, but you may find them generic to lots of period cars. Austins, Rover, Landrover, Jenson, Minis, MGs etc. etc.
There are various suppliers of these online. Have a look and compare, trawl through fleabay for car lights of that era and you may find bits you can swap out.

Hope that helps

Alun

If your light units are not too pitted then re-chrome…..they are made of a dreadfully cheap cast metal which is disliked by any decent chrome plater….the amount of bubbles and craters on the surface will determine their fate
Reproduction parts should be avoided if possible…it’s as simple as that…

I don’t know who is your best choice local to you but Russell Jones at Silvabronz down here is good

Many thanks all. I'm due a trip to my chromer , AC Howells next week. As for reflectors, I've ordered some light reflective sheet so once it's arrived I'll sculpt some reflectors and see how they fit.
