#1 Looking for a Softer Hatch Seal for a Series 1 FHC

Post by Wallace » Tue Aug 04, 2026 9:25 am

Hello,

I’m the proud owner of a Series 1 4.2 FHC, which I’ve been restoring for the past five years. I’m finally nearing the finish line, and this forum has been an invaluable source of information and advice throughout the restoration.

However, I’ve been stuck for several weeks on one last detail. I simply cannot install the hatch seal that fits onto the body aperture. The PVC seal I purchased from SNG Barratt is far too stiff and is almost impossible to fit around the curved sections.

I’ve noticed that some cars appear to use a much softer seal, but I haven’t been able to find a supplier that sells this type.

Does anyone know of a supplier offering a softer hatch seal?

I’ve attached a photo to avoid any confusion about which seal I’m referring to.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Eric

Have you spoken to COH Baines? They make lots of very good seals

Same issue here its not a seal its a trim piece.BD39105..you need to look for old stock..new after market is way too hard ..ps you could try soaking it in hot water? Or try the trimmers see what they use..Aldridge BAS etc viewtopic.php?f=3&t=22097&p=177929#p177929
