#1 Clutch pedal not returning

Post by deano1968 » Sat Sep 26, 2026 10:30 am

Hi Folks,

I'm having a problem with my clutch pedal not returning. The car starts and selects gears normally on start but after several presses of the clutch pedal it then refuses to return. I've changed slave cylinder and upgraded the return spring, fitted a new return spring on the clutch pedal and changed the rubber flexi pipe to the slave cylinder. The Master cylinder was also changed last year so I'm now at a loss! Any help and suggestions most welcome.

You need to narrow it down.....does the clutch fork return....is it pushing the pushrod back into the slave cylinder......if you disconect the hard line into the master does the pedal release....wirh the hard line disconnected if the pedal dosnt return then whats stopping it?..internal piston etc?.....Steve

Thanks Steve, I got beneath the car and can see the clutch fork returning and got my passenger to press the pedal down several times and then it stopped returning again. Disconnected the master cylinder from the pedal and a further test revealed it was the spring which had mis-seated. Many thanks. 👍👏
