#1 Wilwood caliper problems

Post by stephen. » Thu Aug 14, 2008 6:33 am

Morning everybody.
I have fitted a pair of Dynalite callipers to the front of my Series 1. The calipers I have do not have anti rattle springs, and the pads, ( Mintex, correct ones for the calipers ), rattle up and down in the calliper. You wouldnt believe the noise they make up to about 30mph . Has anyone else had this :( problem and come up with a solution?

Steve.

Yes - I had the same thing happen with my Zeus calipers when I first had the car and it is indeed most un-Jaguar like. I seem to recall they changed the pads, service sheet shows "changed pads to softer asbestos type - Mintex". Not had a problem since and this year I changed to Greenstuff (great pads by the way) and no problem there. Suggest you change to a different type of pad, put some anti squeal paste on the back (Copperslip will work) and try again. The Greenstuff pads do have a soft backing plate which is designed to be anti-rattle, anti-squeal.

As an aside I trust you did not use nyloc nuts anywhere near the calipers? The high brake temperatures can cause the nylon to soften and allow the nuts to undo. Always use 'safety washers' (spring washers) and standard nuts around all brake components or anywhere else subject to high temperatures.
