Engine Identification

My engine is non-standard and I have been trying to confirm the model (XJ6?) and year; the number is 8L 1809XX. I am told that is one digit too many, but it is definitely 6 digits after the 8L.

I haven't yet found a detailed cross reference, so I would appreciate any info you may have.

This is from an S3 XJ6. You can confirm it positively by looking at the external surfaces of the block by each core plug : an S3 motor has ribbing running vertically either side of the core plug . I doubt that there are too many digits : the last is probably an S H or L denoting standard high or low compression ratio

FWIW the late Series 2 blocks had this vertical ribbing too AFAIK, but they also used left side cam feed whereas the S3 went to right side and spin-on filter block. Not that this kind of thing can't be swapped around, including blocks, but still. There's an engine-number decoder somewhere on Jag-Lovers I think
