#1 Series 1 - FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER WISHBONE BALL JOINT

Post by stewart » Mon Jan 23, 2012 5:41 pm

Appreciate advise with replacing the original 'shim type' ball joint with the later sealed for life ball joint (Part No. CAC9937).

Is it necessary to remove the Lower Ball Pin Spigot which houses the ball joint and dust cover ?

Or does the CAC9937 sealed type fit directly into the stub axle with the Lower Ball Pin Spigot in place?

If it has to be removed how is this best carried out ?

Regards,

Stewart

This mod has been done many times. You need to make sure you remove the socket from inside the upright. Simple enough, it just knocks out. Also don't forget you will need slightly shorter bolts to hold the joint in place.

Thanks Tim,

Does the lower ball pin spigot within stub axle push out from beneath or from the top i.e. the dust retainer side ?

JUst inset a thin tool through the top of the stub axle and tap out.

a few minutes work only
