#1 '..big wheels keep on turning,...'
can someone please explain to this novice,why when i jacked up the rear near-side of my 65 series 1 , i had some play(which i thought may be bearing but both rears had it so dismissed) and could not rotate wheel without getting massive resistance as if in it was in gear. some sort of diff lock, LSD? knowledge is dangerous but i,m intrigued..... thanks

It's normal for you to just be able to turn one jacked up wheel on a car fitted with a LSD. My '65 S1 is the same. Nearly all models were fitted with them as standard. Later they became an optional extra.

I agree with Nick. With an LSD, if it is working properly, it will be very stiff to turn with just one wheel in the air ( very much as you describe) . The way to tell is to jack both up . If on turning one wheel, the other turns in the same direction, you have LSD. If it turns in the opposite direction , you have a conventional diff
