#1 Hard Tops Values

Post by BevanIMP » Thu Oct 11, 2007 7:37 am

I have been looking for a hard top for a series 1 roadster and have no idea on how much I should be paying. The values seem to be from ?500 -?1800.
Also it is apparantly extremley hard to find parts for them if any bits are missing (IS THIS TRUE !!!!).

Great to see a dedicated e-type forum.

Your right prices do range from about ?1,000-?2,000, you would expect to pay about ?1,800 for a complete one with all the chrome trims and good head lining but would benefit from a light refurb.

The parts are very hard to obtain and I would recomend buying only a complete top with all the trims.

I hope this helps.

Fibreglass originally for road cars. Again, you must buy one with all the chrome trim as it is unobtainable. As Harry says, prices seem to be ?1500+ for a good one. Add cost of refurb plus the brackets if your car is not fitted with them. You also need a trusted plater to handle the chrome. The rear window surround is very thin and easily damaged. Best buy one in top condition and spare yourself the worry. Watch out for non-factory hardtops. There were many period offerings in odd shapes. Avoid the modern repro hardtops.

All cars were fitted with a mule hardtop at the factory to ensure a good fit if one was subsequently ordered. If your car has been restored or damaged/repaired the factory hardtop may no longer fit.

Personally I would not bother with one unless you use the car all year round or are racing. Pain to take on and off, adds weight, usually leak and will probably suffer damage when stored (sods law). Look great though.

Hey to all!
First Post and new to the Forum.

Read this one and had to join and reply.
I have a 67 Series1 ots with a factory hard top. Missing the Left half of the window chrome.
Three companies made these and supplied them as after market or given directly to Jag. Two in the US and one in UK. Wish I knew how to tell them apart.
Much like the Amco bars, alot were added by the US dealers. Some actualy came with the cars. All 3 are long gone as the series 1 gaduated into the series2. I'd love to physicaly see the factory buildings, but have no idea where to search.
Being of entrepnurail spirit I have taken it on to produce the rear window chrome and side side chrome for the Series 1 Hard Top. The sides will be sold seperatly. The rear window chrome will be sold as a 4 part set Left/Right top/bottom clip. Every thing else can be fount through XK.
The headlinner is also an extint item. Looking into that as well.
I'm not sure there will be a market to justify the 200 units I'm about to have made.
I could have just one made for me, but this will be way more fun.

Once I set a price and my guys give me a production schedule, I'll launch my web site for all.
Give me a shout if you have an intrest!
