Just ordered some rubber trim for the outside of the window frame from Woollies at ?2.50 a meter. I'll report back on its viability but it certainly looks right.

Slight change of subject - anyone know where I can buy the felt that sits on the INSIDE of the window channel? And more importantly how on earth do you fit it?

There are different sizes of channel felt which are easy to confuse and can jam your window. It has even been known for that to make it seem a new glass was the wrong size :-)

The felt is part of the inner wiper strip fitted to the door cap. You buy the whole strip not just felt. Cheap enough and not hard to fit.

I have the wiper strip but not the felt that runs round the window frame.

Sorry, misread your post. You have the perimeter rubber wiper seal and the felt wiper strip inside, not the channel felt. Woolies sell it I think, as well as the usuals and CE Baines?

The usuals will presumably sell the correct size and other sources could advise if you give them the channel dimensions and glass thickness. Haven't got my CD handy for part number but it's a generic item. You just press it into the channel, I've never needed glue.

Hi Chris got my channel felt from SNG,it was the correct size and no glue needed

Thanks folks.

I now have some felt being delivered by Woollies along with the rubber extrusion to go round the outside of the window frame.

Quick update but not good news....

Woolies have now supplied the rubber that runs round the outside of the window frame. It is the right profile and size BUT it is *really* stiff and the rubber simply bounces off the door frame and wont allow the door to shut so thats another failed attempt :(

Time to call restoration companies and ask them what they use and get them to supply me with some. The silly bit is there cant be that many manufacturers out there...

Sometimes I wish I had a roadster as I would probably be on the road by now... :roll:

Hi there,
Coming at this a few years late I know, but the Trail here is relevant to my S1 FHC problem - I think.
Problem - after rechroming frame the glass runs fine when the door is open but sticks horribly when closed.
Solutions tried: a) wind window down when stationery :) b) readjusted everything in sight so I now have a poorly fitting body/frame relationship

After reading this trail I now think my frame got bent during chroming. QUESTION: If I lay it on the floor, should the frame be perfectly flat/parallel to the ground? I detect a slight inward bend making the frame banana shaped so the bend is around where the frame meets the door shell pulling it in at the top.. a bit.

Your words of wisdom are eagerly awaited!

Yes it should be flat. The problem is that the chrome plater polishes the frame on a linisher which heats up the (brass) channel - this distorts it. Put your frame in a vice between two block of wood and carefully tweek it straight. My chrome plater managed to ruin my top screen chrome and one pillar chrome completely .

Me again.. so..
Straightened frames up. bit twisted too. Here's the rub.. when i reassembled the fit seemed worse!
after much head scratching i have located the problem. Bloody repro parts again. [img]
the rear edge of the glass isnt straight. There's an almost imperceptible bump near the lift channel that causes the glass to jam slight one point. when fitted up, there's just enough movement in the frame to jam the glass.
Swines x2:
1) the bodyshop that 'lost' the original door glass
2) dodgy spanish made repro part

Im going to remove the rubber (cant grind down tempered glass) from the channel and fit a felt one which is thinner. that ought to fix it..
Simple stuff made complicated by the parts suppliers.. .[/img][/url]
