#1 Master Brake cylinder rebuild question + part search help

Post by kpytoi1 » Sat Aug 11, 2012 3:25 pm

Could anyone please advise where one may find a ''rectangular section plastic bearing'' for rebuilding the master brake cylinder on a '68 2+2. I've taken it apart, and it appears that there's not one inside, seemingly missing from the previous rebuild. I'm thinking it should probably be put together with one. It's a small part that looks like a thick washer. Also, in the manual that I have the order of installed parts in different than in the insert that came with the rebuild kit. The manual has: ''the'' bearing, secondary cup, piston washer, seal, then circlip. The rebuild kit instructions call for: piston washer, secondary cup, ''the'' bearing, circlip. So, what is the correct install order and where can one find the ''rectangular section plastic bearing''? Thank you in advance for your suggestion and help.

Peter

Hi Peter.....had the same problem on mine with the misleading instructions, but unfortunatly cannot remember which way round i fitted the cup...If i recall by doing a loose fit it becomes quite obvious..however Chris Rooke had this problem & details it in his book (E Type A kind of loving)....Im away from home at the moment but im sure someone here will look it up & give a reply.....Steve

Hi just looked at Chris Rooks book.....& a photo of when he dismantled his piston shows that it was assembled as per the instruction sheet & not the manual...I now remember that this is how i reinstalled mine, large bearing goes in first with the O ring fitted then the secondry seal, make sure its the correct way around, followed by the washer like bearing, unfortunatly I dont know where you can get one......Steve
