washer jet

how on earth do you get to the washer jet that is on the drivers side, do you emply some mini-me cpmtortionist or do you remove the dash - any advice would be good

Do you need to remove it or has it just become loose where the old fibre washer has rotted away?

it has become loose, but as I also have a washer pump problem I dont know if I need to remove it yet until I get a replacement washer pump

Getting at those things is a real pain, but they can be reached through the drop-down instrument panel, if you have small arms and hands. This is a good time to convince the wife/girlfriend that the family who "plays together stays together." You will need another hand outside the car to prevent the jet from turning.

If the tubing is original, this is a good time to replace it with something a little more durable, such as Tygon clear vinyl tubing.

yep, thought of that one, but cant get my hand far enough through to get hold of the bottom of the washer jet. Will have to look at taking part of dash out I think.

If the fibre washer has gone hard break it off and slip a suitably sized 'O' ring over the washer jet. You can then tighten up the wing nut under the dash. A lot easier than taking the jet completely off, putting on a new fibre washer and re-installing.

I didn't even go to the lengths of tightening below - the o ring holds the jet perfectly well. You need the smallest one you can get over the jet body. This then sits half in the gap left by the washer and grips it quite nicely.

I wasn't going to risk getting my arm stuck in an E Type dash. It would be hours before anybody came looking.

excellent advice, a new rubber o ring slipped over the top now holds the washer jet perfectly now and will stay like that for time being.
