#1 Steering rack mounts

Folks,
Looking at changing the rack mounts. Manual only refers to removal of rack. Guessing that the mounts can be changed with the radiator/bonnet etc in situ??
Am I naive/correct/hopeful?

You can remove the rack only. 2 pairs of hands helps. I fitted the polygons mounts as I found the originals too soggy. Don't buy repro and don't forget the failsafes

Thanks Angus,
Can it be done one mount at a time leaving the rack in situ.?...........don't want to get into setting the track again!
Also, what are the polygons?......some sort of polyurethane mount?

David for polygons read polybush (bloody auto spellcheck!). You don't need to set the tracking as you don't need to remove the track rod ends. Not sure if the mounts can be done in situ.

Take the bonnet off (10 mins) and remove the radiator (5 mins).
You can get the bonnet on and off by yourself. I use a piece of rope from a roof beam to support the open bonnet at the back. Put 2 pillows under the front and undo the bolts. Roll the car back, undo the rope and lower the bonnet to the ground. I put a piece of old carpet under the back, stand it up and then pull it out of the way.
Removing the rack shouldn't affect the steering geometry. Some of the mount bolts go through the picture frame; I doubt you could get one off without removing the whole rack.
Otherwise It's a pretty easy job.
While the bonnet's off check the timing; you can actually see the harmonic balancer and the distributor at the same time . :)
