#1 Alloy dash kits

Post by andrewh » Sun Nov 18, 2012 9:25 pm

has anyone bought one of these new trim kits? I reckon a lot do, as most of the restored cars I see have them fitted. Anyway, just taken a delivery of a kit from a well known supplier. Seems nice, but like all repro items, not that nice! well of course the slots that should be cut in the dash to locate the various switches are not present and the holes have been cut out which with a press which has slightly increased the thickness of the alloy at the critical place to fit the switches through!

Anyway, my question is are there good kits and bad kits? if so who should I buy one from, and if they are all the same have others had to "adjust" the kits to fit? Dont want to mess around with it if they should fit straight away. thanks

Andrew

This link is to one part of a full set, might be worth asking the seller if they are original stock or not, the advert is a little ambiguous

Hope that helps

I think this says it all;

"Condition:
New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is ... Read more about the condition"

So it's a repro part.

:oops: ...hadn't picked that up, sorry Andrew.......old stock does crop up, I am always looking but as I need the somewhat rarer cross hatch pattern that was only around for parts of 1963, it seems like it's the dot pattern that is often available

Thanks guys. Indeed to file out the lug notches and then I think the dash panel will be ok. Just wanted to see whether anyone had similar issues. Will report back
