The E-Type could ideally do with a new system front to back inc manifold.
After speaking with John at PD Gough (Nouvalari) (he seems a very pleasant knowledgeable chap) they can supply a full stainless (polished) manifold & system (SuperSport loud) with rear resonators deleted and exiting in 2.25"
Anyone used PD Gough and happy with the system / customer experience?

I used them as they are local to me and had them make me a narrow bore system for my cast manifolds. Very helpful although I had to take the system back twice because a) they had not 'dry' fitted the system on the bench so the rear pipes were splayed and would not fit the resonators and b) the silencer entry pipes were too short. However they put things right while I waited but it would have been a pain if I was some distance away. Just ask them to bench fit it and make the silencer entry pipes a bit longer.
Some thoughts on your choice of system though based on my own experiences:
1. The 2.25" pipes will be very difficult to fit between the torsion bar and sump without them hitting one or the other, especially at tick-over. I never cured mine
2. The large bore pipes will give you more bhp at maximum revs but will result in a big torque dip between 2,250 and 2,750 rpm which is just where you want all the power when overtaking in an E-Type. You need to fit 1.75" venturis in the silencers to get rid of the dip.
3. The resonators are small straight through silencers designed to provide a richer and more pleasing sound. Deleting them is a bad idea. You can also tune the sound by altering the length of the resonator pipes:

4. The 2.25" system will be very loud indeed with lots of bass resonance which will pass into the car. It is not a pleasing sound or experience, especially after an hour or so driving.
5. If you are wedded to tubular manifolds be prepared for more under-body heat and noise. The noise in particular is annoying especially at low revs as you get individual ignition pulses ringing giving you 'tubular bells'. You also will need to fit a servo heat shield and a frame heat shield to avoid boiling the brake fluid and bubbling the frame paint.
6. The larger pipes will make the car more susceptible to grounding on undulating roads
7. The best sounding and performing exhaust system uses the standard cast manifolds, 1.75" tubes, straight through silencers, straight through resonators - all in mild steel. Stainless steel alters the timbre of the exhaust sound and it is not that pleasant. You could stick with a stainless steel system but specify the resonators in mild steel as that 'ripping calico' sound under throttle comes from the tail pipes.

If you want to go ahead with such a bespoke system I suggest you contact Ian Stewart at Eccosse Motorsport eccossejag@hotmail.co.uk or http://www.ecossemotorsport.com/ because he knows how to make them work. PD Gough is ideal if you want a standard system particularly if you want mild steel or a stainless/mild steel hybrid although you will need to get the resonators chromed seperately.

Thanks David
The car currently has a tubular manifold (fairly short primaries) into a very large single repackable silencer and from there - straight through 2.5" stainless pipes with no resonators to exit.
The car currently has heatshields etc in place
The car is "very loud" but i feel, within keeping of it's race history as it's more of a "race car for the road" rather than vice versa
The current single central silencer is so large :-( it knocks on the body on occasions and the complete system is past it's best IMO
Thanks for your input - all points duly noted

I have a complete ClassicFabs s/s system which I was planning to put on eBay in the spring. It is 2.25", long manifolds, straight through silencers, 1.75" venturis, straight through resonators and is complete with modified hangars and 'racing' secondary pipe support. It also has additional primary pipes suitable for cast manifolds so you can swap between the two. It is pictured extensively in one of those threads mentioned above. It cost almost ?1,000 new - let me know if it is of interest. It is quite loud under acceleration but quietens down nicely on a light throttle. We used it extensively through Europe but as I am getting older the hooligan element is leaving me and we quite enjoy travelling in a little more peace!
